After a bit of a hiatus, what better way to get back into the swing of things than with some awesome photos of elephant seals. These rather unique looking creatures can be found at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery, located along California Highway 1, equidistant between San Francisco and Los Angeles. This first picture shows a rare moment of apparent affection – they seem to spend most of their time trying to head-butt and bite each other. Despite looking like giant furry slugs, when you manage to look one in the eye, there’s an almost human quality of emotion there.
